Keeping Busy Exploring Korea

In one week I will have been in Korea for two months! In some ways I am surprised that it has already been two months I have been able to do/ see so many things since I have been here and I feel like I am starting to get the hang of everything here and that I am becoming a pro at this whole living overseas and teaching thing. Ha-ha Maybe I shouldn’t get too comfortable because I know I will still have some speed bumps down the road. However, as you can tell I am starting to really enjoy myself here in Korea and it is starting to become my new home. I know I want to stay here for a few years so the sooner I am comfortable the better. One of the largest reasons I am adapting well here is the friendships I have made. I have a really good group of friends that I met at orientation and our now spread over around the Jeollomando Province and then a good group of friend’s right here in my own little town of Boseong. Every weekend I have been staying busy going to visit friends in their towns and going to festivals. It always helps during the week when I have something fun to look forward to. So far in only two months I have gone to Suncheon, Green Tea Plantations, Yulpo Beach, Gwangju, The World Music Festival, Yeonggwang, The Flower Festival, Seoul, and this weekend to Jinju for the Lantern Festival. My weekdays are not so bad either because I have a great community of friends that I see pretty much every week. Almost every night a few of the girls in my town will walk after school and go around the rice fields next to our apartment. I always enjoy those times with the girls because it is a way for us all to wind down from our busy day and just talk to one another. It is nice being able to get talk to another person that understands you and can actually speak English. Our group of Boseong foreigners are pretty good at getting together often to just hang out and have a good time. I think my favorite get together so far was the party for the August and September birthdays. My dear friend Ellen hosted our birthday party and even made some decorations and game for the party. We played pin the tail on the pig and ate cake. Always a good way to celebrate right?!
I also very blessed to have such an amazing school. Everyone at my school is very friendly and helpful. Every morning I walk into school I get handed a cup of coffee and am greeted by all the staff and students. My favorite part of course is the students. As I walk through the halls I always feel like a superstar... or someone important. The students always wave at me and say hello to me even if they said it to me earlier in the day. I love it! Every class period I do not know what to expect but I guess that is what makes life interesting, right? I have been learning through the past month that I just need to be flexible and to not take things to personally. Some days everything will go my way and the students will love me and other days the lesson will not go so well and the students do not want to learn. That is just what comes with teaching and it only allows me to learn from them and continue to move forward.

Check out how cute my Kindergartener's are:
