Turkey Day!
American Thanksgiving was last week, so I am going to dedicate this post about how I spent my turkey day. In the spirit of Thanksgiving I will start off with what I am thankful for. I am thankful for my wonderful family that I love and care for with all my heart. Even with me being far away they make me feel like I am not with regular Skype dates, letters and a wonderful care package with Christmas presents! I am thankful for my friends both at home and in Korea. I have the most wonderful friends back home who makes me laugh, listens to me cry, and encourages me every day through Skype, Facebook, or letters/ packages. I am thankful for a job, for my school and my wonderful students.
When everyone back home was enjoying their long Thanksgiving weekend off, I was over here having to get up early and go to work. Luckily, Thursday was an open house day for my school. Ok, you may be thinking, “Open house… why is that so special?” well let me tell you why. Open houses here in Korea are more like, “Hey you! Come to our school and see how awesome we are with all our lights, music, and costumes!” I think it is all about appearances and the show of it and boy did they put on a show.
The entire gym was decorated with banners, backdrops, balloons, the children’s art work, lights, and a bubble and fog machine. The children all had glitzy costumes and were all so cute. The show lasted for about two hours. The show consisted of all the kids dancing, singing, playing the violin and piano, and of course two dance routines of Gangnam Style.

After the open house all the students went home. That means all my classes were cancelled and I had the rest of the day to desk warm. We ended up playing volleyball later that day (which no one informed me about and I had to play in my dress). The game was fun and going well until the incident happened! I will not go into detail but I will say that I may have accidentally collided with my Vice Principal… and he may have gotten hurt from me. >.< Yikes! I was so embarrassed, shocked, and almost in tears and didn’t know what to do! It all turned out ok in the end and no one blamed me for what happened. This is why I do not play sports… things never turn out well.
After school my friends who live in Boseong with me, came to my place to celebrate Thanksgiving dinner together. There were about 12 of us in my little apartment. We ordered fried chicken and everyone brought a side dish to go with it. We had potatoes and gravy, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, apple pie, pumpkin pie and other yummy stuff. It was nice being able to spend time with them and enjoy each other’s company. I was able to Skype my family the next day on their Thanksgiving so that was fun also! So to sum it up… I had a pretty good first Thanksgiving away. I still missed not being with my family back home and eating my family’s home cooked food but I am so thankful and lucky to have a family here in Boseong too!
